Tropical Storm 'Mario' Brought Heavy Rains And Floods

 

Tropical Storm Mario has made landfall over the northern tip of Cagayan before noon today.
Mario was located 64km north northeast of Tuguegarao, moving west northwest at 22kph. It has maintained its strength, with maximum winds of 85kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 100kph.
Mario is expected to exit landmass tonight, then leave PH Area of Responsibility on Sunday morning.

Signal #2 is now up over Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Mt. Province, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Batanes

Signal #1 is now up over: Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, and La Union.

Dams affected by heavy rains
La Mesa Dam is on red alert, recommending forced evacuation of residents living in areas near it as it has already breached its spilling level.
Two other dams have begun to release water: Ipo Dam in Bulacan and Binga Dam in Benguet.
Among areas affected by water released from Ipo Dam are Norzagaray, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliwag, Pulilan, and Plaridel.
No area is affected by the release from Binga Dam, which opened only one gate.
PAGASA says Magat Dam in Isabela is near critical level. It may have to release wate later today or early Saturday if the rains continue. Among affected areas are San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reyna Mercedes, and Burgos.
PAGASA says all residents near Magat River have been evacuated.

Marikina River now on Alert Level 4

Marikina has implemented the forced evacuation of residents from areas near the Marikina River as the local government has raised the Alert Level to 4.

The water level is already nearing 20 meters.
All floodgates have been open since 5:55 a.m., when the river was still under the 3rd alarm.
The water rapidly rose.
Project NOAH Head Mahar Lagmay however says the river seems to be stabilizing and doesn't expect the water level to rise further as the rains have begun to let up.
Several areas in Taguig under ankle or knee-level floods
Several areas in Taguig City are also flooded.

Manila evacuates 4,000 residents from Baseco

As many as 4,000 residents in Manila have been evacuated due to severe flooding.
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada says they have provided relief goods and food to families from the Baseco area, who have evacuated to shelters.
Estrada adds, floods have also rendered many roads in manila impassable.
Vice Mayor Isko Moreno has also advised the entire stretch of espanya is no longer passable to small vehicles.
Bautista: Araneta flooding to be reduced by December

Meantime, the Cuezon City Government is confident flooding in Araneta Avenue will be reduced by the end of the year.
Mayor Herbert Bautista says they're just waiting for several flood control projects to be completed.
Meanwhile, he also urges DILG Secretary Mar Toxas to speed up the relocation of illegal settlers in flood-prone areas.
He also urges Vice President Jejomar Binay, Head of the National Housing Authority, ro fast track the bulding of relocation sites for illegal settlers.
Bautista says doing so will minimize the need for rescue operations, which endanger the lives not only of the residents, but also of rescuers.

Class and work suspension

While no public storm warning is hoisted over Metro Manila, several cities and nearby areas suspended classes because of floods and heavy rains caused by the habagat and Tropical Storm "Mario."
