Tell us you'll come back.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) wants
Senator Jinggoy Estrada to make a public declaration of his intention to
return to the country after a trip to the United States.
Justice
Sec. Leila de Lima told DZMM on Monday, she made the request to the
senator himself Friday last week after he informed her of the trip.
"Sabi
ko naman sa kanya, pwede pa ho kayong umalis kung gusto niyong umalis
dahil wala pa naman talagang grounds to prevent the departure. Sabi
naman n'ya. 'Babalik ako.' Sabi ko, 'You should publicly manifest that.'
Para alam na [ng lahat] may plano siyang bumalik," de Lima said.
The
senator said he will leave for the States to accompany his wife, Precy,
who is set to seek a second opinion on a lump found on her breast.
Earlier, he said he has no plans of evading
plunder charges filed against him before the Ombudsman in connection with the multi-billion peso pork barrel scam,
wherein lawmakers’ Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) were
allegedly funneled to bogus non-government organizations involved in
ghost projects.
Estrada, along with Sens. Juan Ponce Enrile and, Ramon Revilla, Jr., were charged with plunder for allegedly getting multi-million kickbacks from purported scam operator Janet Lim Napoles.
Last week, the DOJ sought the cacellation of the passports of Estrada, Enrile, Revilla, and several other individuals implicated in the scam.
